the 72-peak Phuong Hoang (phoenix) mountain range with its vast pine
forests, sparkling streams, rugged cliffs and ancient towers and
pagodas.
Located at the foot
of Con Son Mountain is Con Son Pagoda built at the end of the 13th
century. The pagoda was one of the three centers of the Buddhist
Truc Lam Trinity under the Tran Dynasty (1225-1400). The pagoda was
extended in 1329 and underwent several restorations during the 17th
and 18th centuries and in the last few decades. But the pagoda’s
slipper-shaped tiles and stone pedestals from the Tran Dynasty are
still preserved.
Am Bach Van and Ban Co Tien

Vision
To develop into a high-quality, nationally leading,
multi-specialization university, as well as to promote regional
recognition of HUA in the field of agriculture and rural development
by 2020.
Mission statement
Hanoi University of Agriculture embraces the
disciplines of agriculture and rural development in Vietnam. In
pursuit of excellence in training, research and public service, HUA
has a strong commitment to agricultural and rural development,
making contributions to cope with the industrialization and
modernization of agriculture and the countryside.
As a leading national centre of agricultural science, the
university's goal is to provide society with well-prepared
individuals who will help improve the productivity and efficiency of
agriculture. Our mission is to teach these individuals to use the
natural and agricultural resources available to satisfy the
economic, social, physical and ecological needs of the Vietnamese
people. We hope that this will be accomplished through using methods
and systems that are socially sustainable and beneficial to the
environment.
Historical background
HUA was established on October 12, 1956, as one of the first
national universities of Vietnam. Since that time the university has
become a center for higher education, research and technology
transfer in agriculture.
At its establishment the University was named Agro-Forestry
University, which consisted of five Faculties: Agronomy, Animal and
Veterinary Science, Farm Machinery Engineering, Forestry and
Political and Social Science.
In 1958 the University merged with the Institute of Farming
Research, Animal Production and Forestry to form the Agro-Forestry
Institute. From 1960-1962 the Institute offered two more
specializations: Fisheries and Agricultural Economics. In 1963 the
institute split into Hanoi University of Agriculture and the Vietnam
Agricultural Science Institute. At the same time, the Faculty of
Forestry separated from the University to become the College of
Forestry. Later, in 1966, the Faculty of Fisheries dissociated
itself from the University to become the College of Fisheries.
In 1961, the Faculty of Economics and Rural Development was
established, followed by the Faculty of Land resources and
Environment in 1976. Then in 1978, HUA founded its Graduate school.
The Faculty of Food science and Technology was founded in 2001. The
Faculty of Technical Teacher’s Training, which was established in
1997, was divided into two faculties: “Education and Foreign
Languages” and “Information Technology” in 2007. Also in 2007, the
Faculty of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine was divided into
two faculties: “Animal and Aquacultural Sciences” and “Faculty of
Veterinary Medicine.”
